no but you may be able to test into it.
Hi, no they are not. Early Childhood is birth to 9 and Primary is K-6. I started out Primary(Elementary) then switched to Early Childhood. I really like the little kids. Most Early Childhood majors work in preschools or day cares. Primary is teaching in an Elementary School.
If you earn your ECE degree you can get your teaching liscense and be able to teach k-3.
I don’t know for sure about Georgia State. You’d have to check their web site. But usually Early Childhood means preschool and sometimes kindergarten. Primary usually means early elementary school grades.
They are not the same. ECE refers to nursery, pre-school, and kindergarten (ages 2-6). Primary education is K-5 or K-6. You need to to get into the Primary Ed program to teach at an elem. school.
No the main difference in the age groups that you would go on to teach.
I think Early Childhood Ed is for day care workers. You can begin educating when kids are babies and toddlers. Their minds are very receptive.
No. Early Childhood is basically pre-k, while primary is elementary school.
It all depends on where you plan on teaching. When I taught in PA for example, the certification for primary ed was K-8, and early childhood was for day care centers. When I taught in NJ, the certification for primary was K-8 as well, and early childhood was a separate certification. In TX, where I teach now, the one certification is EC-4, and the other is 4-8. Due to the “wonderful” NCLB laws, states change their requirements almost every year to meet the national guidelines.
If you are planning on teaching in Georgia, your college will provide you with the proper ceritifcations for the age group you like. You just have to decide if you want to wipe noses and tie shoes (EC), or do you want to teach reading and writing with only the occasional nose wipe (K and up).
I have taught K, 2nd, 4th and 6th. They all have their pros and cons. As long as you have patience and tolerance, you will be fine.
It depends on where you get your degree. I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from PA. It transfer to Florida where I could also teach K-6. I moved to Ohio had to take another test and was only able to teach PreK-3.
In the state of Ohio there is not a primary license it is either early childhood or middle childhood.
